Yes - string pin bowling is sanctioned under certain conditions. The USBC (United States Bowling Congress) has approved EDGE String machines that meet its specifications. The IBF (International Bowling Federation) also recognizes string pin bowling. As for the PBA (Professional Bowlers Association), at this time, only EDGE String machines have received approval.

As of November 2025 the PBA (Professional Bowlers Association) has only tested EDGE String and it has  approved EDGE String machines for use in PBA competition. EDGE String is  the only string pinspotters/pinsetters currently sanctioned for professional competition by the PBA.
