Free-fall pinsetters or pinspotters are the traditional pinspotting technology used in the industry for many decades. It is the most common technology in use today and what many players are used to bowling on. The pins are not attached to anything, such as strings.
They are both terms for an automated machine that picks up and puts down bowling pins. AMF originally coined it “pinspotter” because it spotted the pins in the right place. The name reflecting a more accurate placement of pins on spot.
